Why we celebrate World No Tobacco Day
World No Tobacco Day is rather not a holiday but a very important date. It is celebrated annually on May 31. World No Tobacco Day was approved by the UN. It was held at the initiative of US oncologists for the first time. Tobacco smoking causes various diseases, including lung cancer. It also takes about 10 years of life. But even the risk of premature death cannot make a person quit this addiction. This is because, during smoking, nicotine enters the body, which causes addiction.
It is very difficult to quit nicotine addiction, but it is still possible. Thus, for smokers, this day can be a big step towards a long life without undue health risks. After all, when you have the support of several million people, it is much easier to quit smoking tobacco.
What Do People Do
Each state is interested in a healthy population. Therefore, health care institutions are developing large programs to combat tobacco smoking. For example, on World No Tobacco Day, school administrations hold various events and tell children about the dangers of cigarettes. In the United States, the “Great American Smokeout” was established, which is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of November. Annually, WHO launches major campaigns to help people cope with this dangerous habit and warn non-smokers. Anyone can apply to its programs.

Celebrating World No Tobacco Day is very easy. If you are a non-smoker, you can support smokers to stop smoking. And if you’re one of the smokers, then this is a great opportunity to quit this habit because the last day of spring is a great date to start a new life. You can also bet with friends out of interest whether one of you can manage to spend one day without tobacco. Or maybe more? People can spend this day not only with benefit but also with fun. This date is celebrated in many countries, including the United States and France.
