French fries are one of the most popular and loved dishes all over the world. Adults and children can’t resist these crispy slices. Fries are served in any public catering establishment for little money. The recipe for this dish is so simple that you can cook it at home. This food has won millions of hearts and stomachs. It is not surprising that National French Fries Day has appeared. This food is considered quite unhealthy. But in honor of the holiday, you can close your eyes to this and carelessly enjoy its taste.
What Do People Do?
On National French Fries Day, restaurants prepare a lot of French fries. They serve it as a side dish or just with sauce. Sauces to every taste are offered: cheese, barbecue, sweet and sour, etc. Different countries have their own traditions of serving this dish. Public catering establishments offer branded recipes. Yet, the cooking technique is the same for everyone:
- Cut potatoes into slices;
- Place slices in a fryer;
- Lower the fryer into the hot oil.
There is an interesting fact about why potatoes are called “French”. It all started with the fact that all the rivers froze in Belgium during the winter. Because of this, they could not fish. Then, the Belgians decided to substitute it with potatoes. They cooked it according to the same recipe as fish. The First World War soldiers, who were in Belgium, liked this food. Since French was spoken in Belgium at that time, they began to call potatoes “French”. Nowadays, it is called differently in some countries. For example, in the Netherlands, it sounds very simple – “Frites”!

This Day is celebrated annually on July 13 all over the world. On this day, you can make a small holiday of your stomach.
