Why we celebrate International Day of Charity?
The International Day of Charity is a day to draw attention to the problem of poverty. For a variety of reasons, there are many people in need around the world. Some of them, particularly children, live in poverty, with no home or food. Every day they struggle to survive. Caring people, to the best of their ability, manage to save only some of them. The other part remains unheard. But it’s up to us to fix it. The more people who care, the more lives will be saved. So this day informs everyone about the problem and encourages them to get involved in charity.
The UN General Assembly has designated 5 September as International Day of Charity. The date was not chosen by chance. The date coincides with the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mother Teresa dedicated her life to helping the poor and needy. She left behind a tremendous legacy. Her work helped countless people. The nun was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for this. International Charity Day was established to educate the public about the problem of people in need and to unite the forces of those who want to help. The day serves as an accessible platform for charitable activities.
What Do People Do?
On International Charity Day, charity events are held. Government and non-government organisations collect humanitarian aid and send it to those in need. Charity is not just fundraising, but also many other things. For example, clothes are collected for those in need, food is given to the needy, and free medical care is provided. Everyone can join the charity to the best of their ability.
How to Celebrate International Day of Charity?
International Day of Charity is celebrated every year on 5 September. The day is celebrated in Hungary, Australia, Italy and other countries. Find out about the nearest charity organisations and offer your help. Find out how you can help. You can also consider donating to orphanages, nursing homes, hospices or animal shelters. It is symbolic that World Gratitude Day is celebrated at the end of September.
