Why we celebrate World Gratitude Day?
People tend to take some things for granted. They don’t realise their value and don’t see how much good is around them. This makes them miss out on moments of joy. A sense of gratitude can help change their view on the world. World Gratitude Day reminds everyone to appreciate, respect and be grateful for all they have in their lives. These feelings enhance the quality of our lives. So join in the celebration!
The holiday was invented by Sri Chinmoy, a meditation teacher. In 1965, on Thanksgiving Day, members of the United Nations gathered in the meditation hall. Sri Chinmoy then proposed the establishment of a World Thanksgiving Day. He was concerned that people were undervaluing gratitude and Thanksgiving was only celebrated in a few countries. The UN members agreed with him and started organising a thanksgiving meeting in their country every year on 21 September. In 1977, a special ceremony was held to recognise Sri Chinmoy. At that ceremony, a resolution was signed to hold an annual World Gratitude Day.
What Do People Do?
On World Gratitude Day, people take a moment to reflect on how often they are grateful for things they have. In the pursuit of achievement, they overlook what they have already achieved. Instead of experiencing the joy of what they have already gained, people regret what they do not yet have. Without realising this, a person will always be stressed. Therefore, it is important to appreciate things that you already have. It is also important to be grateful for the people who make life more pleasant. This always commands respect.
How to Celebrate World Gratitude Day?
World Gratitude Day is celebrated every year on 21 September. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration. Start this day with yourself. Give thanks for what you do for the world. Show your appreciation to your loved ones for caring. Give them a nice evening and do something nice for them. Develop an appreciation for the little things. And we thank you for reading our article!

This is an example, but you can make your own list. Write down on a sheet of paper the activities that you do every day or that lift your spirits.
