Why we celebrate American Family Day?
Family is an important part of society, as well as a crucial part of everybody’s life. Nothing and no one can influence a person as much as one’s family members. They help each other, support, and shape moral values. It makes the time spent together with relatives priceless. But often work or other domestic chores swallow people’s time, which prevent them from paying enough attention to their bellowed ones. Family holidays help to solve this problem and make it possible not to miss the time spent together with relatives. The American Family Day is one of these holidays.
The holiday originates from Arizona. John Makkai suggested that the local government held the American Family Day and gained approval. This event took place in 1977, and Governor Raul Hector Castro signed a proclamation to celebrate the holiday. People liked the idea so much that decided to declare this day an official holiday of Arizona. In 1978, Governor Bruce Babbitt endorsed a law to celebrate the holiday. After a while, a few states (North Carolina and Georgia) supported the celebration, and other followed later.
What Do People Do?
On the American Family Day, people put their work off and spend time with their nearest and dearest. The pastime depends on the customary family traditions. Relatives can gather around a holiday table or spend time in the wilds. Tangible gifts aren’t common on this day. The main gift is attention and sensitivity. So, people give positive emotions to each other. These may include memories of old stories, children’s funny jokes, games, as well as support, care, and love.
How to Celebrate American Family Day?
In the USA, people celebrate the American Family Day every year on the first Sunday of August. In Arizona, it’s a public day off like the Mother’s Day or the Father’s Day. Put off all your work on this family holiday until later. Pay attention to the dearest people in the world – to your family.
