Why we celebrate Aunties Day?
We celebrate this holiday to show our respect and gratitude to aunts. They always support us and want what’s best. Also, this celebration has another name – the Modern Aunty Day.
This day is dedicated to all women who have a special relation with children. An aunt shouldn’t necessarily be a child’s relative. She may be the woman who loves the child and takes care of him or her. As the founder of Savvy Auntie Melanie Notkin says – this holiday resembles the Mother’s Day but this one is for aunts. This day is especially important for childless women who can’t give birth to a child for some reason. After all, love, and attention they sincerely feel for other people’s children deserve respect.
What Do People Do?
On this day, nephews and nieces congratulate their aunts on happy Aunty Day. They prepare surprises, postcards, flowers and spend time together. Godmothers and parents’ close friends get their attention as well. The Savvy Auntie organization supports this holiday. Any woman who considers herself to be an aunt can join their Professional Aunt No Kids group. The community conducts a variety of studies on relations between women and children. It helps to improve their communication, since aunts and children play an important role in each other’s lives.
How to Celebrate Aunties Day?
The Aunties Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of July. In the USA, it’s not a federal holiday. To celebrate this holiday, you can invite your aunt to your house or visit her yourself.
