Every year on the last Saturday in April, World Veterinary Day is celebrated. On this day, employees of private clinics, veterinary stations, zoos, livestock farms and kennels are congratulated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The holiday was established in 2000 by the World Veterinary Association. It aims to both educate people about the profession and remind owners that they are responsible for the people they have tamed. The health of pets is directly linked to regular specialist visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Veterinarians are trained in specialised secondary and tertiary schools. Above all, they study the anatomy, physiology and diseases of cattle, small ruminants, horses, pigs, poultry and popular pets like cats and dogs. Only after gaining basic knowledge can veterinarians gain a subspecialty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many countries host lectures, meetings and conferences for professionals on World Veterinary Day. Philanthropic foundations and animal shelters hold events to raise money, food and support for pets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although it’s not a day off, it’s not an excuse to postpone a preventive pet check-up at the veterinarian’s once again. On the last Saturday in April, many vet clinics will be offering free GP appointments or discounted prices on procedures. However, try to arrive at the clinic as early as possible.
