Dress in Blue Day is an event aimed at educating people about colon cancer. Everyone is probably familiar with the pink ribbon that symbolises the fight against breast cancer. Therefore, the colour blue is now associated with the corresponding disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The idea for the day came from Anita Mitchell. She herself is a survivor of colon cancer, but her father and a close friend were unable to cure the disease due to a lack of timely and proper treatment. To prevent similar situations from happening again, Anita Mitchell began to raise awareness of colorectal cancer. In 2009, her idea was officially recognised by the Cancer Alliance and gradually began to spread in many countries. The colour blue was chosen for a reason, as it symbolises hope and grief for the departed. Anita Mitchell’s main aim was to educate people about the disease, and to help patients with the same diagnosis as herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this day, many people dress in blue to express their awareness of the disease and to honour those who have died of colon cancer. Many schools, colleges and universities give lectures about colon cancer. Doctors tell people about the importance of early diagnosis and proper nutrition. Some donate money to various funds to help patients with these diseases. Some of the former patients tell their unique story of recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dress in Blue Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in March. To take part in this event, wear clothes of a matching colour. If someone close to you or yourself has managed to beat the disease, share your story on social media. This will inspire cancer patients to continue their treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n
