The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, 2 December, marks the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (resolution 317 (IV) of 2 December 1949). The aim of this Day is to eradicate contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, the sale of brides, the inheritance of widows, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The year 2004 has gone down in history as the year of the fight against slavery. It was then that many countries tightened their control over the illegal economic and other exploitation of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, the UN calls on member states to do their utmost to combat a grave problem for humanity. Lectures and various other activities are organised to bring the importance of this day to the masses. On this day, is celebrated by representatives of charities, NGOs and political organisations. Government agencies and foundation activists join in the celebrations. People who have been victims of slavery are also associated with the commemoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is celebrated annually on 2 December. It is an international holiday, officially celebrated by all states whose authorities are taking measures to prevent modern types of slavery. The main way to mark the day is to take time out of your day to talk about the issue of slavery in the world. You can organise an event, spread the word in your community or use hashtags on your social media accounts. You can also donate time or money to organisations working to end slavery around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n
